ABOUT COMMON EXCHANGE

British Columbia’s No.1 Pawn Brokers Since 1992

Common Exchange is a unique business in that each location contains two businesses under one roof: a pawn business and a retail business. While many pawnshops combine their retail and lending functions, each Common Exchange location is purposefully separated into two separate areas to ensure the customers obtaining pawn-loans are afforded maximum privacy. At Common Exchange, pawn-loans are our primary focus and constitutes the majority of our business. The retail component only comprises a small portion of our business and is used to sell items that were pledged for a collateral loan but not redeemed.

The growth and success of Common Exchange is largely the result of a focus on customer service and meeting the needs of borrowers. Common Exchange prides itself on providing a professional and friendly environment for our valued clients. Indeed, since 1992 Common Exchange has been aggressively changing the perception of the short-term collateral loan business in the Lower Mainland.

WHAT IS PAWNING & HOW DOES IT WORK?

What pawning is and how it works are questions we get often. Pawning an item is a long honoured tradition, and a remarkably simple process. Back before banks offered credit cards and lines of credits freely, there were Pawn Shops. For hundreds of years Pawn Shops have been the way many would be able to deal with short term cash flow issues. If you had an item of value, and needed cash, you took it to the Pawn Shop. The Pawn Shop would lend you cash and hold the item until you were able to pay back the balance owing!

This simple process has remained largely the same to this day! All you need is an item of value, and photo-ID. No credit or employment checks necessary!

Not looking for a loan? We can also purchase your item! Read on to see your options..

GET THE MOST CASH FOR YOUR GOLD!

We offer pawn-loans against, and purchase gold! As the price of gold continues to soar, many are turning to pawn shops to turn their unused jewellery into cash. Want to sell your gold? Here are some tips!

Is your gold sentimental but you need some cash to help solve a short term cash flow need?
We would be happy to help cover that need by providing you with a pawn loan instead, allowing you to redeem your valuables after paying back the loan.

WHAT DO I NEED?

All you need is the item you’ll be using for collateral, and a valid government-issue photo ID such as a Driver’s License or Passport!
No credit/employments checks necessary!

If you are bringing in any battery-powered items, such as smartphones and laptops, please ensure they are charged to atleast 50% so that they can be tested. Bringing a gas-powered tool? Make sure to have gas on hand so that we can see it running!

Tips to consider before visiting your local pawn shop.
